Drake Presented With Songwriter's Hall of Fame Award

The award is presented to young songwriters making an impact in the industry.

Drake received the Hal David Starlight Award at the 42nd Songwriter's Hall of Fame Awards Gala held in New York City June 16. He is the first hip hop artist to receive the award, which is presented to young gifted songwriters making an impact on the music industry.

Producer Jimmy Jam presented the award to Drake praising his talent for writing as well as merging singing and rapping in his music. Drake dedicated the award to his mother who had accompanied her son to the ceremony.

 

Later on, Drake tweeted his appreciation: "Just won the most incredible award and performed for my mother…a year ago today she was being wheeled into a surgery room…I love you.”
