Janet Jackson’s Words For Her Father Will Break And Mend Your Heart At The Same Time…
Prayers are still up for music’s iconic Jackson family after they suffered the loss of patriarch and famed music manager, Joe Jackson.
The estate of Joe’s son and the late King of Pop Michael Jackson released a heartfelt statement in light of the passing just days after its confirmation. And while the rest of the family thanked the world for their condolences, the youngest of the Jackson siblings, Janet Jackson, took to the Essence Festival stage in a tearful tribute and sharing even more loving words for her late father.
Janet shared that after Joe’s death, she was stuck in an understandably difficult place, and even considered cancelling the rest of her stage appearances—including her tour and the Essence Fest appearance
Instead, the Queen of Pop wanted to use those moments as an opportunity to acclaim her father’s legacy. “I talked to my brother and we started to speak about my father’s strength,” she said. “He was very strong. Without his drive, his strength, we wouldn’t have this success.”
Janet went on to explain that Joe was the catalyst behind her family’s globally successful music empire, a family that broke glass ceilings around the world. “We broke all kinds of records all over the globe,” she said. “That’s [the] truth.” During the family’s moments of grief, they reflected on Joe’s guidance through his spirit as well.
“My father was a great man,” Janet praised of Mr. Joe. “My brother asked me, ‘If he was here listening to this conversation, what do you think he would say to you?’”
From what she knows and loves about her father, Janet said that he’d give her one of his most major guiding principles. “And I think my father would have said, ‘Janet, please,’” she said. “’Finish what you’ve started. And I will be there with you every step of the way in your heart.’ So here I am.” Among the crowd’s cheers, the “Rhythm Nation” icon lifted a finger to the sky, and sent a tear-jerking concluding statement to Joe before performing her 1997 hit, “Together Again,” in his honor.
“I love you so much,” she said. “This one’s for you.”
We continue to send love and light to the Jackson family and keep them lifted in prayer during this time
