How Many Political Lives Does Weiner Have?

Rep. Weiner must be doing something right for his constituents because a majority still support him.

Rep. Anthony Weiner has to love the pragmatism of the voters in his New York Congressional district. Just as it looked like his political career was toast, a majority of his constituents appear willing to hold their noses when they look at him and to support him because the representative, with seven terms of seniority, takes positions that they endorse.

The latest NY1 Marist Poll reports that “a majority of registered voters in New York’s 9th Congressional District—56%—do not think Anthony Weiner should resign from Congress.  However, one-third—33%—believe he should, and 12% are unsure.”

Frank Alberti, who was polled, said that Weiner is friendly, knowledgeable and reaches out to his constituents, and consequently the scandal doesn’t change the way he views Weiner. "It's an embarrassment, but I vote for someone on his record," Alberti said.

Weiner has been embroiled in an unfolding sex scandal since lurid photos that he sent to women online began appearing. His fellow Democrats have sought distance between themselves and Weiner as a result.
