Four Suspects Arraigned In Slaying Of Cleveland-Area Woman Believed To Be Killed in Revenge Plot
Four of six suspects have reportedly been arrested in connection to the killing of Cleveland-area woman Alishah Pointer, 22, who police say was tortured, murdered and left in the basement of a burned out home, where her body was found Nov. 9.
East Cleveland police say Pointer had information related to a crime in the city and was abducted days before her death and tortured in an attempt to get information about the crime before she was murdered. On Monday, the Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner said Pointer died from gunshot wounds.
Investigators believe that Pointer, who lived in North Randall, Ohio, a Cleveland suburb, was lured from her home by two women who themselves were kidnapped and held at gunpoint, according to local station WEWS.
Pointer, they say, was then kidnapped and later tortured for information on the whereabouts of her boyfriend. Cleveland.com reports they were looking for the boyfriend, seeking revenge for the Nov. 2 slaying of Aminjas Shomo, 19. Authorities believe Pointer had nothing to do with that slaying and it has not been determined if her boyfriend did either.
According to WOIO, Anthony Bryant, 18, Brittany Smith, Portrait Williams, 30, and Nathaniel Poke Jr., 22, faced an East Cleveland Municipal Court judge on Monday (November 15) for arraignment.
All four pleaded not guilty to murder and waived their preliminary hearings. The cases will now be handed over to the Cuyahoga County Court of Common Pleas with bond set at $2 million. Their initial appearances in county court are scheduled for Friday (November 19).
The two other suspects that didn’t appear in court were also arrested, the East Cleveland Police Department said on Friday, however they were not in court on Monday. They are identified as Indya Pauldo and an unidentified 17-year-old girl, whose name is not being revealed to the public due to her age.
Hakeem-Ali Shomo, a seventh suspect, is still on the run, authorities say.
