Rick Ross Explains Hood Billionaire Title
Being a “hood billionaire” really has nothing to do with money, according to Rick Ross. The 38-year-old leader of Maybach Music Group recently discussed the meaning of his album title and other topics in an interview with HipHopSince1987.
“It ain’t based on what type of money you have, just somebody that’ll inspire you,” said Ross. “When you see them coming down the streets as a shorty and you stop and you point, that’s a hood billionaire. That’s what it’s about, just being in the hood, we ain’t goin’ nowhere. We ain’t taking our money nowhere else, we keeping it right here.”
The album itself represents a “started from the bottom” climb. “It’s cool to start mopping floors and work your way up to the owner,” explained Ross of what he wants people to take away from Hood Billionaire. “That’s the best way to do it, you learn all the roles. All the positions.”
Ross also talked about Meek Mill’s new album, and a possible collaborative release with the Philly spitter. Meek’s long award follow-up to 2012’s Dream & Nightmares has been derailed by his incarceration. “We gon hit ‘em with that Meek Mill solo album. I know he gon’ most definitely have some new s**t he wanna record and say but we most definitely gon’ deliver that [a collaboration], if that’s the homie wishes.”
Even with a member locked up, MMG isn’t slowing down the hustle. 2015 will bring about a Self-Made Vol. 4 compilation, and more expansion for Ross, who just wrote his first film.
