Cardi B Says Her Second Album Isn’t ‘Ready’ Just Yet

Rest assured, because the Bronx rap star says she’s “already plotting her next move.”

The Bardi Gang has been on the watch for Cardi B’s highly-anticipated follow-up to her 2018 Grammy-winning debut, Invasion of Privacy. There is anticipation  that her sophomore effort will arrive any day now. Cardi has been steadily working on it, telling Billboard last fall, “It's practically all I'm focusing on.”

  • Over the last few months, the Bronx rap star has occasionally dropped tidbits about the record on social media. In February, Cardi teased that she had five bangers in the cut. Then, in August, she released her record-breaking, “WAP,” which features Megan Thee Stallion. That same month, she told ELLE that her forthcoming album would have some “Lemonade” moments à la Beyoncé

  • But it appears fans will have to wait just a little bit longer. In a recent interview on The Angie Martinez Show, the Bronx rapper expressed that the full-length project might not possibly come until the coronavirus pandemic is over.

“I don’t have my album ready, but even when I feel I have my album ready, I’m still debating when I should put out an album, too,” Cardi said. “I want to do real f**cking interviews. I want to see people and talk and sit down. I want to tour. I want to go to parties. I want to go the clubs and shake my a** to my own music.”

Nonetheless, Cardi shared she is “already plotting” her next move. “I have other projects coming out that don't involve music. But, when it comes to music, I think I’m going to put out another single,” she said.

  • Nonetheless, it appears fans are still heavily bumping Invasion of Privacy as the album has set another record. On Monday (Aug. 24), popular music industry analytics system Chart Data reported via Twitter that the 13-track project is now the longest-charting album from a female rapper in Billboard 200 history at a record 124 weeks.

Cardi celebrated the milestone achievement on Instagram, where she thanked her fans for their support.
“It feels very good! Thank you guys for still supporting and listening to Invasion of Privacy,” she wrote. “Working on my second album, it’s taking time, but I want to make sure I put [out an] amazing project.”

  • Meanwhile, “WAP” is continuing to do big numbers on the charts. The mega-hit held onto the No.1 spot for its second week in a row on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, fending off Drake’s latest release, “Laugh Now, Cry Later,” featuring Lil Durk which debuted at No. 2. This makes “WAP” the first song to achieve this feat since Ariana Grande's  2019 hit, “7 Rings.”
