Mathew Knowles Reveals How Solange Was Affected During Destiny’s Child Days
Recently, Mathew Knowles, Beyoncé and Solange's father and former manager, revealed he was gearing up to release a Destiny's Child stage play entitled Survivor: The Destiny's Child Musical, as announced via his official website.
Knowles admitted that while production is still in its early stages, he's confident he’ll receive support of the group members once the script is finished, and that most of the play will be from "his perspective," as both manager to DC and father to Bey and Solo. In a new interview, he also explained why he’s deep-diving not only into the development of the group, but the ramifications it had on the family as well—particularly, the youngest Knowles daughter.
“Everybody understands this is my perspective, not their perspective,” he told Page Six. “The girls were very young when they got into this business, so a lot of this perspective, they didn’t really understand.” Page Six also revealed that Knowles' plan for the play is to "focus more so on his experience managing a successful group while raising another daughter, Solange Knowles."
"[Solange] wasn't getting attention because Destiny's Child was kind of, consuming the family,” he explained. “So [the musical] takes you through the ups and downs of a family, as well as Destiny's Child's ups and downs. You will be awakened with information that I think possibly surprises you.”
While concerned fans may be giving the side eye as to whether or not the musical will teeter the lines of play and exposé, Knowles said he's already made the family aware of the production, and that Solange and former wife Tina Knowles-Larson are "excited to see what the script is going to look like."
As for the rest of group?
“We have directly and indirectly spoken to — not only Beyoncé, Kelly [Rowland] and Michelle [Williams] or their representatives — but also some of the former members of the group,” he claimed. “We’ve given them the opportunity to be as much involved as they’d like, or [have] as little involvement as they’d like.”
Knowles also told the publication that he will share never-before-released songs from the group as an added bonus for fans.
Survivor: The Destiny's Child Musical will reportedly kick off in Beyoncé's hometown of Houston before making its way to Broadway and other places around the world, including London's West End and Australia.
Knowles said he plans to debut the play in February 2020, just in time for Black History Month.
