Kelly Rowland and Tamron Hall Discuss the Singer Possibly Portraying Donna Summer
Kelly Rowland left fans craving more when she debuted as the legendary musical icon Donna Summer last Halloween. The singer’s mesmerizing portrayal sparked a wave of requests from supporters, urging the 42-year-old to consider taking on the role of the Queen of Disco in a biopic, should the opportunity arise.
In a sneak peek of her upcoming appearance on the Friday (June 2) episode of Tamron Hall Show, host Tamron Hall brought up the topic while gushing about HBO’s latest docuseries, Love to Love You, Donna Summer.
Hall asked Kelly, “When did you realize you were a twin of Donna Summer,” to which the singer burst out in laughter.
The “Dilemma” singer admitted, “I don’t know,” as she continued to fawn at a photo of Summer on the screen behind her. She teased the late entertainer before asking, “Can we just talk about the fact that this woman single-handedly breathed life into disco–a whole genre.”
Kelly shared she drew many parallels from Summer’s life to hers, particularly regarding how the pair approached their artistry. Hall added that the “Hot Stuff” singer “wanted everything to be a theater, a performance,” telling Kelly, “and that’s how you are about your music.” She continued, “And you’re a person who, every detail matters and that’s what she embodied.”
“It does matter,” the veteran star said in agreement. The singer said, “When it came to the lighting and the expressions and the writing, I learned so much” from her former groupmates.
The Freddy vs Jason actress continued, “Just what I’ve gained on my own, I feel like a lot of her story and my story kind of line up in the strangest way.” Kelly added, “It’s kind of wild.”
Hall and fans aren’t the only ones campaigning for the project. Tina Knowles-Lawson also wrote on Instagram, “I have been saying for many years Kelly Rowland embodies Donna Summer!... Where are you Hollywood? What are y’all waiting on?”
