Former Michigan State And NBA Player Adreian Payne Dead At 31 In Shooting
Former Michigan State and NBA player Adreian Payne was fatally shot early Monday (May 9) in Orlando, Fla. He was 31.
The Orange County Sheriff’s Office said there was a shooting at 1:37 a.m. on Monday and that a man in his 30s who was shot, later identified as Payne, was taken to the hospital and pronounced dead, The Detroit News reported, citing information from the sheriff’s office.
Authorities identified the accused shooter as Lawrence Dority. He remained at the scene of the shooting. The police took Dority, 29, to the sheriff’s office where homicide detectives interviewed and later arrested him for first-degree murder.
The sheriff’s office did not identify a motive for the shooting, according to ABC News.

Payne was a star collegiate basketball player and a first-round NBA draft pick. His five-year NBA career included stints with the Atlanta Hawks, which drafted him at No. 15 overall in 2014, Minnesota Timberwolves and Orlando Magic.
His Michigan State teammate Draymond Green, currently playing in the NBA with the Golden State Warriors, tweeted broken heart emojis Monday morning.
