Kanye's Nike Air Yeezy IIs to Debut in June
This week, Nike announced that Kanye West’s Nike Air Yeezy II will be released globally in limited quantities on June 9. There will be two color combos of the shoe initially available for sale: a platinum version and a black edition.
This will be the second time that Kanye and Nike have collaborated on a project together. Back in 2009, Nike released the first edition of the Air Yeezy shoe to much fanfare, and while the two installments of the shoes have similar design elements, the Air Yeezy IIs are noticeably less bulky. According to Nike, “Unnecessary padding was eliminated” and the shoe was tailored to fit Kanye’s slim foot size.
Ever since Kanye premiered the shoe at the 2011 VMAs last September, the Nike Air Yeezy IIs have been one of the more obsessed over sneakers on the Internet. It made news every time Kanye or Jay-Z rocked the sneaker and recently artists like Chris Brown, Bun B and Fat Joe have all shown their Air Yeezy love on Twitter.
Other cool details of the sneaker include leather quarter-panels that have an anaconda texture, a reptilian looking spike in the back, and hieroglyphics on the shoe's loop strap which spell out "YZY."
If you want a pair, good luck: The shoe — which still doesn’t have an official price — will only be available in limited quantities at select Nike locations.
