10 Ways Tiffany Haddish Owned 2018
Yup, it’s official – 2018 was the year of Tiffany Haddish. She ruled the entertainment industry with her special brand of “she so crazy” comedy, which has catapulted her rising star to impressive new heights. While she has film credits going back to 2009’s Janky Promoters, the success of Girls Trip in 2017 propelled Haddish’s career into another stratosphere, and she rode that momentum deep into 2018.
With every passing moment it appeared as if she was on to another accomplishment, be it hooking up with HBO, becoming a Time influencer, landing two endorsement deals, starring in The Last OG and The Oath, or preparing to film her Netflix comedy special at the top of 2019 (the special was announced in August of this year and is slated for worldwide released next year). Haddish had more than a few red-hot moments this year – in 2018, she was on fire.
They say be careful what you ask for, but Haddish has mastered the art of manifesting and speaking greatness into her life. Not only does she stay ready, but she “stay busy.” Here are some highlights of Haddish’s amazing 2018.
Her Book Was A Bomb-Ass Bestseller
Haddish made a huge splash in the publishing and literary world with the release of her first book, The Last Black Unicorn, which made the LA Times bestseller list for 10 consecutive weeks, copping the #1 spot for the last week in January and first week in February following its initial publish date of December 5, 2017. The book, a series of personal essays about Haddish’s childhood, time in the foster care system, and relationships, debuted at No. 15 on The New York Times bestseller list and received quite a bit of attention in 2018.
She Got A Hot HBO First Look Deal
You know you’ve got success written all over you when premium cable powerhouse HBO extends an exclusive offer to you for a first look development deal. The two-year agreement between Haddish’s She Ready production company and HBO was announced in January of this year and positioned Haddish even further into the big leagues of television and production. You go, girl!
She Became the Face of Groupon
We’ve all seen the commercials with Haddish “hamming” it up as she touts the benefits of being a Groupon shopper, and who doesn’t love a good deal and a good giggle all rolled up into one cute little commercial? For her Groupon deal, Haddish was actually featured in four spots rolled out at the beginning of 2018, with her featured as the good girlfriend putting her friends on to some great shopping deals. With the success of Groupon’s initial commercial rollout in January, the company created an additional collection of spots that were released in June. Of her work with the company, Haddish shared, “I love being the spokesperson for Groupon. It’s only natural that I’m promoting something that I use all of the time,” adds Haddish. “Plus, you know me, I love bragging about all of the great deals I get and sharing the experiences with my friends. With all of the money you’ll be saving, you can put your kids through college because you about to get paid.” Good looking out, Tiff!

She Made It to the Cover of Time Magazine
Not only was Tiffany Haddish named in Time magazine’s annual list of “100 Most Influential People in the World” for 2018, but she was featured on one of only six commemorative magazine covers for the issue. Of Haddish, fellow comedian Kevin Hart, who wrote the Time Magazine list entry on Haddish, shared, “Tiffany is bringing a whole new level of fresh to the comedy scene. She’s just so authentic and unfiltered. You never know what’s going to come out of her mouth. And you can tell she’s having fun—she’s seen a time when things couldn’t get any worse, and she’s giving it all she has.”
She Hosted the MTV Movie & TV Awards
Haddish hosted the 2018 MTV Movie & TV Awards and had the audience howling and holding their bellies with her special brand of comedy. Tiffany Was Declared the New Queen of Comedy by Vogue
Tiffany Haddish became a global phenomenon thanks to the success of Girls Trip, but the actress and comedian makes it clear that she became a success 20 years ago the first time she stepped onto a comedy stage, because she believed in herself and always knew she was going to be successful. Her trajectory from roles on The Carmichael Show (with Lil Rel Lowery) and in the movie Keanu (from Keegan-Michael Key and Jordan Peele) to being dubbed “the New Queen of Comedy” by Vogue magazine is an endorsement some may have issue with, but you have to appreciate the come-up!

Tiffany Haddish made history in 2017 by becoming the first African-American female stand-up comedian to host an episode of Saturday Night Live, and in September of this year the 39-year-old earned a coveted Emmy Award for her historic hosting gig. During her Emmy award acceptance speech, Haddish shared that when she landed the SNL gig, she tried to do her “research” by calling Whoopi Goldberg to ask her about the honor. In September of 2018 we all went to night school and got schooled on the essence of funny thanks to Tiffany Haddish’s role as the no-nonsense night school instructor, Carrie. The onscreen comedic chemistry between Haddish and her Night School co-star Kevin Hart paid off in a big way – the movie has grossed over $100 million worldwide since its release, earning the distinction of having the best opening weekend for a comedy in 2018. A++ for you, Tiffany!
She “Did That” With an EGOT
Haddish has become quite the master of manifesting her dreams and desires, and in 2018 one of her biggest and brightest ones came true – she starred opposite groundbreaking comedian and actress Whoopi Goldberg – one of only 15 people to ever win an Emmy, Grammy, Oscar and a Tony – in the Tyler Perry movie Nobody’s Fool.
