Teen Rapper Tay-K Being Tried As An Adult For Capital Murder

The 17-year-old is remaining "upbeat" despite the ruling.

Texas rapper Tay-K – who originally became an internet sensation after dropping a music video about running from the cops while he was literally a fugitive of the law — has reportedly been captured by law officials, and things aren’t looking good. After being charged with capital murder for his involvement in a 2016 home invasion, a new report says the 17-year-old will be tried as an adult in court, according to The New York Times.

“The Race” rapper, whose real name is Taymor Mclntyre, was only 16 years old at the time of the incident, in which a 21-year-old man was murdered. Nevertheless, a judge reportedly ruled that his case was egregious enough to move to adult court. Additionally, officials state that “juvenile court will lack jurisdiction soon,” due to him nearing the legal age. “The judge was very clear to tell Mr. McIntyre on the record that this decision has no bearing whatsoever of his guilt/innocence in this case… Mr. McIntyre remains upbeat after this hearing,” a statement from one of Tay-K’s lawyer, M. Trent Loftin reads.

The home invasion Tay-K is being tried for reportedly occurred in Mansfield, Texas, NYT reports. Although the incident was allegedly set up by two other women, the teen was reportedly arrested and eventually mandated to house arrest. While on house arrest, Tay-K created more trouble for himself, fleeing from his specified boundaries. He then recorded “The Race” video before being arrested again. The song was dropped after his arrest and climbed to No. 49 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.

Mclntyre is also reportedly a suspect in a murder that took place after a 2015 Daytona Boyz concert. Despite his ongoing legal troubles, Tay-K and his lawyer remain hopeful. “Mr. Mclntyre remains upbeat after this hearing. I believe once all of the evidence is presented, Mr. Mclntyre will be exonerated on all charges,” Loftin stated.
