The Top 5 Unforgettable Moments From Yeezy Season 3
If you followed BET Network's Snapchat, then you already know #KanyeDay was lit. While millions streamed the New York Fashion Week presentation of Kanye West's Yeezy Season 3 via Tidal, the best seat in the house was definitely from inside Madison Square Garden, where it all went down. BET.com contributor Janae Price was there, and shares the top five moments we won't soon forget.
1. Lamar Odom Returns
At 4 o’clock I was staring around a partially empty stadium, by 4:30 p.m. I was screaming out the name of the demigod of my generation; Kanye West. A spotlight flashed down as he casually strolled into the stadium with none other than Lamar Odom by his side. It was Odom's first public outing since his drug overdose last October. Dressed in a camo jacket and a black hat, he looked clear-headed as the crowd exploded with applause. A close second for this list has to be the arrival of the Kardashian-Jenner clan: Kim (who wore a platinum blonde wig), Khloe, Kourtney, Kendall, Kylie, North West (sans brother Saint) and Caitlyn donned all-white outfits and fur coats hand-picked by Balmain creative director Olivier Rousteing. He was seated next to Kris Jenner, naturally.
2. The Soundtrack
Kanye played his new album, The Life of Pablo, in its entirety. Guests like 50 cent, A$AP Rocky, Travis Scott and Pusha T surrounded Kanye as he DJ'ed the show. He kicked it off with the first track in his album, "Ultra Light Beam," and it was all ground-shaking hype beats from then on. Amazing features by artists like the Weeknd and Rihanna had the crowd pulsating. If I had to call it, I'd say the album is a great mix between the more abrasive and eccentric sounds of Yeezus and the lyrical content and amazing features of Late Registration.
3. The Models
Hundreds of models turned out for the casting call. The diversity in model choice was something to be commended, given fashion's apparent disparity. Intermixed between spry 20-somethings were celebrity models including Naomi Campbell and Young Thug. Models were adorned in a mix of street fashion, from puffy coats to new varieties of the Yeezy Boost 350.
4. The Clothes
Compared to Season 2, this line has warmer shades of cranberry and yellows accompanied by the signature earth tones. Many of the women wore tight flesh-colored body suits with matching fitted caps to hide slicked-back hair and bright harness bras. Models stood expressionless as the crowd swayed to an array of heavy bass.
5. The Crowd
The highlight of the event had to be a tie between Black fists periodically being held high in a vast sea of lethargic models and the church-style call and responses between Kanye and fans screaming "f*** Nike." After his album finished, Kanye began to play new music from both Vic Mensa and Young Thug. It felt as casual and natural as friends passing around an aux cord to hook up to one another's iPhones during a long drive rather than a listening party that was broadcast to millions worldwide.
