Atlanta Mother Of Two Shoots And Kills Her Children Before Turning The Gun On Herself
58-year-old Marsha Edwards allegedly committed the murder-suicide just hours after posting on Instagram: “I could not ask for better children.”
A divorced mother from a prominent family in Atlanta is suspected of doing the unthinkable – shooting and killing her two adult children before turning the gun on herself.
The tragic incident reportedly happened just days after 58-year-old Marsha Edwards returned home from a vacation in Italy with her daughter.
On Wednesday evening (August 21), police were conducting a welfare check at the Edwards family home in Vinings, Georgia, when they discovered the bodies of Marsha Edwards, along with her adult children – 20-year-old Erin Edwards and 24-year-old Chris Edwards.
Cobb County police believe Marsha Edwards shot her children before killing herself, but the motive is not clear at this moment. They also aren’t sure exactly when the shootings took place.
According to NBC, Marsha was divorced from Dr. Christopher Edwards, a prominent orthopedic surgeon in the area who also sits on the board of trustees at the Morehouse School of Medicine.
He was informed of his family’s deaths on Wednesday.
Just hours before the three deaths, Marsha made an Instagram post, writing, “I’ve had the best summer, first with Chris in Miami, and Erin in Italy. I could not ask for better children.”
A statement via family spokesperson Jeff Dickerson has since been released and describes the horror Christopher Edwards is currently going through.
“Dr. Edwards, his extended family and friends are in a state of grief and shock, and privacy of the family is paramount as arrangements are being made,” it read, in-part.
A neighbor of the family, who reportedly lived in a wealthy gated townhouse community just 12 miles outside downtown Atlanta, says she believed the family was happy and had no major in-fighting between themselves.
“From our knowledge, no malice between the children or nothing like that. They just seemed like a normal happy family,” they said to WTVM.
Authorities say they do not have any more information about the killings at this time and are currently investigating what happened.
