Artists Are Bringing Their #BlackLivesMatter Protests to Their Music
“I made this song awhile ago, I never got to finish it,” Jay Z writes in a message released alongside his latest track, “Spiritual.”
“Punch (TDE) told me I should drop it when Mike Brown died, sadly I told him, ‘this issue will always be relevant.’ I’m hurt that I knew his death wouldn’t be the last……” Hov continued. “I’m saddened and disappointed in THIS America — we should be further along.”
The mogul is joined by a countless number of artists coming forward to speak out in support of the #BlackLivesMatter movement in the wake of a week that was especially trying. This week, where police brutality, peaceful protests turned violent and injustice weighed heavy on our hearts, recording artists are turning to their music to help further spread messages of solidarity while also trying to process the fact that these tragic events are still continuously happening and what can be done.
Jay Z is joined by the likes of Chris Brown, Swizz Beatz, Miguel, Slim Thug, Mike Dean, YG and more who are injecting their music with socially conscious messages of hope, faith, anger, frustration and love.
