Rick Ross’ Son Commits To An HBCU
Rick Ross and Tia Kemp’s son, William Roberts III, is headed to an HBCU.
On Saturday (Jan. 27), the Florida native broke the news that he committed to Bethune-Cookman University. His mother took to Instagram to express her own excitement.
“COMMITTED,” Kemp captioned the post. “Let’s go, WILDCATS!! GOD IS THE GREATEST!!“
Roberts III played varsity football as a freshman at St. Thomas Aquinas, a high school in Fort Lauderdale known for producing NFL players like Pro Football Hall of Famer Michael Irvin, as well as Giovani Bernard, Nick Bosa, Joey Bosa, Asante Samuel Jr., Elijah Moore, and James White. Since 2012, the Raiders have seen 18 former players taken in the NFL Draft. That’s more than any other high school in the country, CBS Sports reported. Additionally, the Raiders won the 2023 Class 3M State Championship — and Roberts III was a contributor to that win.
The offensive lineman began getting offers back in 2021. He reportedly received offers from other Division I college football teams, including University of Miami, Texas A&M University, University of Colorado, Syracuse University, and Florida International University. He also reportedly received an offer from Albany State University, another HBCU that is located in Southwest Georgia. Albany State is also where Robert III’s father Ross attended on a football scholarship before stepping out into the music industry.
"Will’s size, strength, and athleticism have enabled him to play some quality time this season and start a couple of games," St. Thomas Aquinas Raiders head coach Roger Harriott told 247Sports when asked about Roberts III back in 2021. "He’s an extremely talented player and a well-rounded, character-oriented person. His best days are ahead of him."
