The-Dream Leaves Capitol Records
The-Dream must be done with major labels now.
In January of last year, the Grammy Award-winning producer announced his departure from Def Jam through an Instagram post. He had been on the label since 2007, releasing five albums including 2013’s IV Play, which received mixed reviews.
In May, The-Dream quietly signed a distribution deal with Capitol, but didn’t make a formal announcement. However, savvy music bloggers were quick to find out that his name appeared on the website’s roster.
Jump forward well into 2015 and it sounds like The-Dream is calling it quits with Capitol too. In a lengthy Instagram post, the singer/songwriter revealed that after a long process of negotiations, the two parties just couldn’t reach an agreement for Crown Jewel. He does own the masters for his upcoming album, so fans can still look forward to the album coming out. What platform, though, is entirely up to Terius Nash.
