2024 NAACP Image Awards: Quinta Brunson Is Standing On Business
Quinta Brunson said it best: “There’s nothing like winning an NAACP Award!” Bruson has three: Outstanding Actress in a Comedy Series, Outstanding Comedy Series and Outstanding Breakthrough Creative (TV). It’s hard to believe that the award-winning writer, producer, actress and comedian started her illustrious career as an online creator with her series “Girl Who Has Never Been On A Nice Date.” Still, she is the epitome of talent-meeting dedication.
Her viral success caught Buzzfeed’s eye and she was brought on as a video producer and her content for their YouTube channel solidified the brand as a leader of the new cool online. She then went on to create her own series with Facebook Watch called “Quinta Vs. Everything” and by 2019, she wrote and co-starred in the Max series “A Black Lady Sketch Show.” And just a few years later, ABC greenlit the now-award-winning comedy series, “Abbott Elementary,” a show in which Brunson created, wrote, produced, and starred.
Bruson began making acclaimed lists, racking up trophies and even made history as the first Black woman to win an Emmy for Outstanding Writing for a Comedy Series and the second Black actress to win an Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series. “It is the beauty of telling authentic stories. You can make an impact you’ve never even dreamed of.” Brunson has said. The 34-year-old superstar merely set out to make a funny comedy series and had no idea the impact she’d make on history at large.
Quinta’s legendary, Emmy-winning co-star Sheryl Lee Ralph said best: "She is strong. She is fearless. She is gifted. That…is Quinta Brunson!”
