The 19-year-old rapper was additionally sentenced to 30 years in prison and handed down two 13-year sentences, all related to aggravated robbery. He was fined a total of $21,00 and will serve the terms at the same time.

The decision comes after a week-long trial where McIntyre was declared guilty for the murder of 21-year-old Ethan Walker last Friday (July 19). The verdict largely hinged on McIntyre’s culpability for Walker’s death. A botched robbery, orchestrated by McIntyre and several of his associates, resulted in Walker’s death and left his roommate, Zachary Beloate, injured. McIntyre was 16 years old at the time. 

During the trial, McIntyre copped to agreeing to participate in the robbery but testified there was no way he could have known his associate “was going to go in and intentionally kill for no reason, intentionally kill Ethan Walker,” according to XXL Magazine. The jury also cited his alleged involvement in a robbery that left a 65-year-old man seriously injured with regard to the decision of the final verdict.

After the incident, Tay-K was immediately put on house arrest. He reportedly went on the lam from authorities a few months later after breaking off his ankle monitor. While on the lam, he recorded and released a music video for his song “The Race” in 2017, which shot him to fame, before he was apprehended. He is also facing a separate capital murder charge for the death of 23-year-old photographer Mark Saldivar who police allege Tay shot and killed after trying to steal his photography equipment in San Antonio, TX. 

Additionally, Walker’s family and Belaote have launched a joint lawsuit against the rapper for any profits he made off of “Free Tay-K” shirts and “The Race” while Saldivar’s mother is pursuing a wrongful death lawsuit. 

McIntyre has to serve at least half of the 55-year prison term before he is eligible for parole.
