Macy's Is On A Mission To Give More Apparel Options To Black Sororities—Here's How!
Macy's has tapped into an underserved market by launching a line of apparel geared toward the Divine Nine Sororities.
The idea originated from 32-year-old WyQuasia King-Thomas, a director and buyer of day dresses who herself is a Zeta. "We come in a variety of shapes, sizes, and curves, and I understand the challenges we face when shopping," King-Thomas said in an interview with Bloomberg. "I know the need and the importance of this dress collection."
The assortment is for members of sororities Zeta Phi Beta, Alpha Kappa Alpha, Delta Sigma Theta, and Sigma Gamma Rho. Finding the perfect style in the sororities' specific color combinations is no easy fete. However, in partnership with Kasper, Macy's created a collection of affordable dresses, including a wrap dress, a midi shift dress, and a color-block sheath dress specifically with them in mind.
Each group will have a minimum of five pieces per launch, with women's suits set to debut next month. The collection is available in about 200 Macy's locations online, with dresses starting at $90.
The new line is expected to draw in $10 million in sales by year-end. If you would like to check out, buy here!
