BET Awards ’20: These Crews Are Going Toe to Toe for the Best Group Award

Can Chloe X Halle hold their own against hip hop’s finest?

The Best Group category at the BET Awards is always a fun ride because it crosses genres and you never know who will come up with the win. Your favorite R&B group could be going head-to-head with the latest hip hop crew.

That’s why at the 2020 BET Awards (June 28 at 8 pm EST), you’ll see Beyonce proteges Chloe X Halle  (who just dropped a new album ) facing off against hip hop’s Griselda and JackBoys, among others.

Will the high note or the vicious verse win out at the end of the day? Tune in Sunday to find out! In the meantime, have a look at who competing for the prestigious honor.

  1. Chole X Halle

    Outside of co-starring on popular television show grown-ish, these two Atlanta-born, Los Angeles-raised sisters have captivated the world with their singing. Signed to Beyonce’s Parkwood Entertainment company, they released their latest album Ungodly Hour earlier this month. For the 2020 BET Awards, Chloe X Halle have the distinction of being the only non-hip hop group nominated in this category.

  2. City Girls

    Yung Miami and JT make up the Florida rap group, City Girls. Known for their gritty, street-wise club bangers, the two women first rose to national popularity from their 2018 mixtape Period. Two studio albums and one “Free JT” campaign later, City Girls are still pumping out hits with two certified platinum singles under their (designer) belts.

    Based in Atlanta, EarthGang is a quirky rap duo consisting of Olu and WowGr8. Known for their thoughtful lyricism and incorporating other genres like soul and funk, EarthGang is signed to J. Cole’s Dreamville imprint. Their song with Tiana Major9, “Collide,” was featured on the highly touted soundtrack for the 2019 film Queen and Slim

    This hip hop collective out of Buffalo, NY includes Westside Gunn, his brother Conway the Machine, and their cousin Benny the Butcher. While securing big co-signs from rap legends like Pete Rock, Nas, and Raekwon, Griselda members pride themselves on their authentic, street style. After signing to Eminem’s Shady Recors, Conway released G.O.A.T. (Grimiest Of All Time).

  6. JackBoys

    JackBoys is another rap collective, consisting of Travis Scott, Sheck Wes, Don Toliver, Luxury Tax, and DJ Chase B. Their self-titled album was released last December and became 2020’s first #1 Billboard album. The album features a slew of guest appearances including the late Pop Smoke, Young Thug, and Offset.

  7. Migos

    Quavo, Offset, and Takeoff are known for their interesting adlibs and danceable club hits. Migos saw their popularity rise when they released the single “Versace” in 2013. Migos won the Best Group Award at the 2017 BET Awards, when their hit song “Bad and Boujee” was a chart-topper, and now they’re looking for another win.
