Naomi Osaka Shuts Down Pregnancy Rumors: 'I'm Not Pregnant, But Giving Birth Was Traumatic'

The four-time Grand Slam champion, who welcomed her first child last year, addresses speculation about a second pregnancy while reflecting on the challenges of motherhood.

Naomi Osaka is reflecting on her journey through pregnancy and how it might shape her future as both a mother and an athlete. The 26-year-old, who has claimed four Grand Slam singles titles and established herself as one of the most formidable players in tennis, welcomed her first child, daughter Shai, with rapper Cordae in July 2023. Recently, she opened up about the challenges of her first pregnancy and her thoughts on having more children.

In a TikTok video posted on Sunday, Aug. 18, Osaka responded to a comment on a previous video that speculated she might be pregnant again and offered well-wishes. "I just wanna say, I'm not preggos, but if I was, I wouldn't want many more," she said from her bed. "Giving birth was traumatic. But thank you, though, for your blessings."

Osaka has been open about the difficulties she encountered during her pregnancy and the transition to motherhood. Shortly after Shai's birth, she told ESPN that being away from tennis was tough, especially as she adjusted to the physical and emotional demands of pregnancy.

“I definitely only know this world, the tennis world, and just being away from that for a long time, it was new for me,” she shared. Despite these challenges, she felt an "itch to want to play again" after months away from the court.

Since her return, Osaka has shown the same determination and skill that earned her major victories, including her Grand Slam titles.
