Kaavia Wade Celebrates First Silk Press with Mom Gabrielle Union-Wade’s Hair Care Lines

Kaavia’s reaction was priceless, and the moment highlighted Gabrielle’s commitment to creating hair care solutions for melanin-rich hair.

Gabrielle Union and Dwyane Wade’s daughter, Kaavia, just got her first silk press.

In a video posted to Instagram, Gabrielle documented the process using products from her hair care lines – Flawless Curls by Gabrielle Union and PROUDLY, which is specifically for melanin babies. “I love it,” the 5-year-old said as she looked in the mirror before sharing a huge hug with her mother. “Now, I don’t have to put my old wig on.” Watch the full clip below.

During an exclusive interview with PEOPLE last year, Gabrielle opened up about her biggest struggle during menopause which was hair loss. “I just felt off, that's probably the most accurate way I could describe it,” she said. “I was just like, not me. I just left the club. That's like an old woman thing.”

“Around my mid-40s is when the symptoms were like, hey girl, we're here… All of it can feel very isolating and you can feel like less of a woman, especially as a Black woman where our hair is our crown. There's literally the CROWN Act and I'm like, uh, my crown looks more like a barrette at this moment,” she continued with a laugh.

“The Perfect Find” star added, “It was the hot flashes, the night sweats that could happen at any time of day, brain fog, mood changes, ongoing sadness, anxiety that felt more like terror, hair loss, and then random weight gain. That’s when it really hit home for me.”
