Wyclef Jean Responds To Donald Trump's Wild Claims About Haitian Immigrants

The former president claims that Haitian immigrants in Ohio are eating pets.

Wyclef Jean will always ride for his hometown.

During the recent presidential debate with Kamala Harris on Tuesday (Sept. 10), Donald Trump amplified false rumors that Haitian immigrants in Ohio were abducting and eating pets. His son, Donald Trump Jr, quickly backed up this controversial claim. "In Springfield, they're eating the dogs, the people that came in," he said. "They're eating the cats. They're eating the pets of the people that live there. This is what's happening in our country, and it's a shame."

According to officials, there is no evidence that Haitian immigrants in an Ohio community are doing that.

During a recent conversation with TMZ, Wyclef, who was born in Haiti, spoke out against the former presidentā€™s derogatory comments. "I will be forever grateful for my family's life, for having a fair chance to live what is called the 'American Dream,'" he said.

"One of our greatest assets in America is that we are a country of immigrants," Wyclef continued. "I speak from the heart when I say Haitian people living in the U.S. are good neighbors and good people. We care about humanity. We care about our neighbors. On behalf of Haitian Americans, I ask that we stop these racist messages and accusations. Put our hands out in peace and say thanks for being my neighbor.ā€

The former Fugees member urged voters to move past the distractions and focus on meaningful policy discussions rather than being drawn into inflammatory rhetoric. "We need to respect one another and vote based on policies and facts, not crazy talk. And we need to shake hands with one another and be thankful we are part of an America for all."
