Rising UK Duo Young T & Bugsey Teaches Us Nottingham Slang And Reveals Their Childhood Crush On This Disney Star
In the age of social media, one song taking off on TikTok can transform an artist into an international star. Such is the case from British hip-hop artists Young T and Bugsey, an emerging duo from Nottingham in the U.K. A number of rappers from across the pond have been making a splash stateside in the past few years, and Young T and Bugsey were the latest to hit the jackpot with “Don’t Rush,” a slinky Afrobeat-inspired number featuring London’s Headie One.
While the song was originally released in November of 2019 on the UK duo’s debut mixtape, Plead the 5th, TikTok breathed new life into in it with the #DontRushChallenge in April. But for Young T and Bugsey, “Don’t Rush” is more than just catchy: it’s their motto.
“Our journey to where we're at right now has been literally stepping stone. We haven't rushed anything ready to rush the process,” Bugsey elaborated of the song’s significance with a quick assurance that they’re just getting started. With co-signs from Stormzy and J Hus, it’s only up for Young T and Bugsey.
And now, the 23-year-old’s are making waves stateside. BET Digital’s 106&Park Mic Check connected the two with the fans, who had a number of questions about the duo’s rise to the forefront of the UK's rap scene.
Young T and Bugset also chatted with BET about writing their first raps, their favorite Nottingham slang, crushing on a certain Disney star during their childhood, and why “Don’t Rush” is the perfect motto for 2020.
