Hip Hop Awards 2022: See Which Winning Speech Moments Made Our All-Time Favorites List
The 2022 BET Hip Hop Awards will arrive sooner than we know, and ahead of the biggest celebrations of hip hop music and its culture, we’re looking back at some of the most memorable segments, including showstopping performances, special guest appearances, and some of the most significant winning moments and speeches.
The artists below have made it onto our all-time “winning speech moments” list for various reasons. Some musicians used their time to thank those before them, while others were so stunned to have won that they didn’t even have a speech prepared. Megan Thee Stallion is genuinely stunned after winning
Winning an award after a long period of hard work is fulfilling, but genuinely not expecting anything and getting honored anyways puts the icing on the cake of success. That’ was Megan Thee Stallionexperience at 2019 BET Hip Hop. The Houston hottie deservingly won the Best Mixtape award for Fever. “What!” she yelled, looking in total disbelief as she took her trophy, later adding, “We drove the boat all summer, and now we’ve won an award,” she said. “Houston, we in this b—ch!”
Yung Bleu didn’t have a speech prepared
Another example of pure winner’s shock, rapper Yung Bleu admitted that he did have a speech because he didn’t know he’d win the Best New Artist Award at the 2021 BET Hip Hop Awards. “I ain’t even got no speech — I didn’t know I was going to win,” the Alabama rapper started. “Shout out to everybody, we taking this home,” he continued.
Tyler, the Creator shouted out his inspirations
While accepting the award for the 2021 “Rock The Bells Cultural Award,” Tyler recognized his musical inspirations. “This thing that’s a hobby, or a pastime or a passion for us, a lot of people here that shit kept us out of trouble,” he explained. “And it allowed us to change our families’ lives, our friends’ lives, our lives.”
“I wouldn’t be here,” he continued, “if it weren’t for Q-Tip, the Andre 3000s, the Chad Hugos, the Pharrells, the Kanye Wests, the Missy Elliotts, who no one ever brings up. Busta Rhymes, Hype Williams, who just took it to this different world."

Lil Wayne accepts the “I Am Hip Hop Award” with his mom and daughter
In 2018, legendary emcee Lil Wayne accepted the “I Am Hip Hop Award,” where he was joined on stage by his daughter, Reginae, and his mother. The emcee dedicated the award to the “people that refuse.” He continued, “people who refused to stop supporting me, the people who refused to see me as not putting an album out in six years. You guys respected me; you guys supported me; you came to every show; you respect every album, every feature.”
Lil Kim’s love for Notorious B.I.G. is unwavering
Lil Kim has never missed an opportunity to show love to fellow Brooklyn icon Notorious B.I.G. While accepting the “I Am Hip Hop” at the 2019 Hip Hop Awards, the Queen of Rap spoke on the relationship sharing with the audience, “I don’t know if any of yall know how it feels to have an angel following you all around all the time, but that’s Biggie,” before pointing to the sky. “I’m going to always love him, I’m always going to ride for him, I don’t play about him, that’s just what it is,” she continued. “I love you to the Heavens, Biggie.”
