Dark Tide
In this deep sea action film, Halle Berry plays Kate, a professional diver/shark expert who, after being spooked by a great white shark attack that killed a colleague, returns to deep waters after nine years. Still haunted by the almost-fatal encounter, Kate is forced to confront her fears when she accepts a lucrative opportunity presented by an old boyfriend: take a thrill-seeking millionaire businessman on a dangerous dive in Shark Alley without a cage.
Contraband
Mark Wahlberg stars as legendary smuggler Chis Farraday in this action crime drama. After retiring from his criminal life, Farraday now lives life as a “law-abiding family man.” But he’s called back to the dark side when, to protect his brother-in-law from a drug lord, he assembles a crew and heads to Panama to score millions of dollars in counterfeit bills in an effort to settle the in-law’s debt. The film also stars Ben Foster, Paul LeBlanc and Caleb Landry Jones.
Pariah
In this critically hailed coming-of-age drama, new comer Adepero Oduye is Alike, a Brooklyn teenager who’s a gifted poet and secretly exploring her identity as a lesbian. As her mother (Kim Wayans) and father (Charles Parnell) begin to discover her undercover life, the shocking revelation (and discussions) pushes a growingly tense marriage to its boiling point. Within this balancing act, Alike pushes on through her young life with all of its up and downs. This film is Dee Rees's directorial debut.
