Gabby Douglas Presented With Sportswoman of the Year Award
Gabby Douglas has just been honored with the Sportswoman of the Year Award by the Women's Sports Foundation. The award, given to an athlete that has performed exceptionally well, was given to the Olympic gold gymnast, making her the third in her sport to receive the honor.
Douglas wowed audiences with her skills at the London Olympics this summer, which earned her the all-around gold medal and helped the U.S. team win the top prize for the first time since 1996. The 16-year-old star has since appeared on award shows, magazines, cereal boxes and various television shows sharing her inspirational story that earned her a spot on the 2012 Olympic team.
In a recent interview with The Grio, Douglas explained her motivation was to "inspire young girls and everyone. The whole quote about the Olympic Games was 'Inspire Generations,' so I'm just glad I got to do that and just impact everyone’s lives and touch their hearts."
"I think that when you have a dream, you won't let anyone stop you," she said. "So you just want to love what you do and have fun, because it's your passion, so you just want to go out there, have fun and love it," Douglas said.
