Flavor Flav Dodges Jail in Child Support Case
Flavor Flav will avoid prison time after coming through with a hefty child support payment to the mother of his three children. Flav had been facing up to 180 days in prison, but escaped the sentence by coughing up $25,000 dollars in back child support at a court hearing yesterday [June 19], the New York Daily News reports.
The Public Enemy hype man and reality star's child support settlement requires him to pay the mother of his children, Mary Parker, $837.72 per week. After racking up a debt of $111,186, he was found to be in "willful violation" of the agreement.
In addition to the $25,000 lump sum, Flav has also agreed to pay Parker an additional $1,200 per month as a part of his bid to stay out of the slammer.
The high-strung rapper-reality TV star is a father to seven children who he says he will also provide for. In a statement to TMZ, Flav said he didn’t deserve the deadbeat dad rap.
“No matter what’s in the media, I am a good father to all seven of my children. I’ll never let my family do without! I do the best that I can with what I got an I try to make it work, and any man that doesn’t take care of his kids is not a real man and he doesn’t get good luck.”
“I am satisfied with the judge’s decision and I thank the judge for being understanding. Operation No Doubt is now in progress!!!,” he added.
