The story of the real-life Black Mafia Family (BMF) is coming to the big screen.

Program Pictures has acquired the rights to the story of Demetrius Flenory also known as “Big Meech,” and his brother Terry Flenory who were the heads of a $270 million cocaine empire. They employed an estimated 500 employees and based their operations out of Atlanta and Los Angeles.

In the 2000s the Black Mafia Family tried to legitimize their business by entering the hip hop scene and starting BMF entertainment. They were previously known to associate with rappers such as Jay-Z, Fabolous and Bun B, but they have specifically been credited for jump starting the career of some rappers including Young Jeezy.

Last year Rick Ross released a song “B.M.F” which referenced Demetrius “Big Meech” Flenory and Chicago-based street gang founder, Larry Hoover. The acronyms in Ross’ song stand for “Blowing Money Fast,” as the Flenory’s were known to live a lavish lifestyle with multiple, multi-million dollar homes and luxury items. 

In 2008 the Flenory brothers were sentenced to 30 years each in prison.

The Hollywood Reporter is reporting that a script will be built within the next few months.

Program Pictures is also producing the biopic of Tupac Shakur, which goes into production later this year.
