‘Pose’ Actor Indya Moore Brings Santa to Transgender Kids For Holiday Campaign
Pose actor Indya Moore is making sure that transgender youth have a merry holiday season. She’s helping to spread joy with a special visit from Santa’s helpers.
Moore recently launched a social media campaign called TranSanta, which connects volunteers with transgender kids who are in foster care, homeless, or do not have a way to receive presents from loved ones during the holidays.
According to the TranSanta Instagram page, those who want to contribute to the cause can take a look at pre-made registries or wish lists from Target, purchase gifts and ship them directly to the trans youth who requested them.
“For the holidays, we want to show trans young people that they are loved, supported and have a family around the country and world of people who will care for them,” Moore said in an official statement, People reports. “We are transing Santa — join us! Transness is so beautiful and we are celebrating our magic.”
Moore, who uses they/them and she/her pronouns, also mentioned in her statement that Black and brown transgender youth, are faced with difficult realities in their communities that are often dangerous. They have urged allies to continue to contact state legislators to discourage any backing for bills that would harm trans youth including legislation that would criminalize trans health care.
The National Transgender Discrimination Survey reports that 63% of survey participants said they have experienced serious acts of discrimination. Seventy-eight percent reported that they experienced harassment in grades K-12.
