  • Uncle Luke scores a massive win in 2 Live Crew legal battle

Uncle Luke is celebrating a major legal victory after 2 Live Crew was granted the rights to their music after a lengthy court battle with their former label. In an Instagram video outside the Dade County Federal Courthouse on October 16, he shared the news of the group's victory over Lil Joe Records.

The dispute dates back to 1995 when Weinberger bought the rights to 2 Live Crew's master recordings for $800,000. Since then, he has been collecting royalties until 2020, when the group sought to regain control under the Copyright Act, which allows creators to reclaim ownership after 35 years. Weinberger argued that 2 Live Crew's work was "for hire," and they had forfeited their rights when they sold him the masters. However, the jury ruled in favor of Uncle Luke and the group.
