Swizz Beatz Joins Brooklyn Museum’s Board of Trustees
Who knew Swizz Beatz was such an avid art collector? Well if you follow his Instagram account, you would see that the music producer has an eye for design. He has now taken on a new role based off of his love of discovering and promoting artists after being elected onto the Board of Trustees for the Brooklyn Museum. The Bronx native gives much love to local artists, like Brooklyn-based Swoon, Kehinde Wiley and KAWS, and has served as DJ for an exhibition for FAILE, another artist duo from Brooklyn.
Beatz, née Kasseem Dean, has curated a personal collection he’s named the Dean Collection, which has its own Instagram account. He describes it as “this imaginary museum I had at one time in my head for my kids.”
With his new position, Beatz hopes to continue shining a spotlight on emerging artists he’s discovered and introducing them to influencers in the art world.
“I want to be able to pull out my global Rolodex,” Mr. Dean told the Wall Street Journal. With his clout in the music and art industry, he’s sure to bring in a younger wave of supporters and take “art to the next level.”
