Rico Love Breaks Down His New Album, I Sin

The hitmaker talks collaborating with Bobby Shmurda and Big K.R.I.T.

A year ago, Rico Love was singing “They Don’t Know,” but with the release of his latest effort, I Sin, he’s here to clear up a few things.

I Sin is very important to my story, because when you hear records like 'They Don’t Know' and 'Main B-----s' with Plies…people thought I was bashing women,” Rico Love told BET.com in an exclusive interview. “But really I was giving them examples of certain types of women whose lifestyles I don’t want to glorify anymore.”

“On I Sin, I wanted to show you how imperfect I am…let me show you my flaws and us as men and the things we do as well.” Rico explained. He opens up the album with the Big K.R.I.T. assisted track “Spend It,” another play on words for the poetry connoisseur.

“The concept behind 'Spend It' is that everybody can say the B-word, but when we get money we spend it on the B-word…or women who are not honorable,” Rico said, speaking on behalf of males. But as the album progresses, the revelations and reflections continue creating the perfect soundtrack to excerpts of his life.

However it’s not all about the ladies on this one. Rico invited Brooklyn’s own Bobby Shmurda to his Miami studio session and Shmurda fell in love with his track “Bank Roll.” “He was just an amazing aspect to the project,” Rico said of Shmurda.

But like all Rico tracks, of course it’s deeper than what meets the surface. Rico’s goal was to bridge the generational gap in the urban conquest for money, with Shmurda representing for the younger kids from the ‘hood who want to just get money and Rico holding it down from a more mature perspective.

With I Sin available for free download, Rico Love is already working on his next Division1 and Interscope project, which he says will not be free.

“You can expect to hear bigger records, more radio records,” he promised.
