Three New Lakers Respond to Kobe Bryant Question With Awkward Silence
Awkward silence.
That's all that the media following the Los Angeles Lakers got Wednesday when they asked the team's three newest players if Kobe Bryant had reached out to them yet.
During the press conference to introduce center Roy Hibbert, guard and 2014 NBA Sixth Man of the Year Lou Williams, and power forward Brandon Bass, a reporter asked, "Have you guys heard from Kobe and if so what did he say?" After Hibbert initially nodded his head, as in 'no,' the Lakers' three newest acquisitions sat there in over 10 seconds of silence.
At one point, both Williams and Bass look over to Hibbert, before the three continue to sit in painfully awkward silence. Bass eventually cracks a smile because all one could do is laugh at how weird the moment was.
Don't all speak up at once, guys. We'll take that as a no, that they didn't hear from Bryant.
Is it jumping the gun to think that either the Black Mamba isn't terribly excited about having them as teammates or they're not thrilled to play alongside Bryant, a known relentless motivator of a teammate?
We hope the Lakers show better communication out there on the floor during the 2015-16 season. They better if they're going to improve upon their miserable 21-61 record last year.
