Jimmy Kimmel: I Understand Kanye West's Frustration
Kanye West's and Jimmy Kimmel's friendship has officially survived what Kimmel calls his "first rap feud," the late night talk show host confirmed in an interview with Grantland. "I can see how he's frustrated," Kimmel said in 'Ye's defense.
In the most riveting segue into an interview seen in recent memory, Kimmel welcomed West on his Jimmy Kimmel Live! Wednesday (Oct. 9) to discuss a beef cooked up over a spoof he ran about the rapper/producer/leather jogging pants inventor.
"I think [West] said it best. I think he said that he reads and sees a lot of things that frustrate him, and the difference is that in this case he was able to call me, whereas he isn't able to call TMZ or whatever it is that bothers him. And I have to say, I did relate to a lot of the things that he said."
West has been embroiled in major battles with the media — stemming from his 2005 outcry over George W. Bush's reaction (or lack thereof) to Hurricane Katrina, reaching into the Taylor Swift situation, and causing, more recently, a legal war of words as he accuses one paparazzi of trespassing while evading an anger management assignment for allegedly assaulting another.
Using Twitter to deride Kimmel's sense of humor for airing the spoof was par for that course, Kimmel now understands.
As for 'Ye, it seems he's intent on changing course altogether, and helping to create a healthier celebrity-media dynamic. "Y'know, he took down his tweets. And I felt like that was a conciliatory move," Kimmel said. "I'm changing things for my daughter," West has promised.
