Exclusive: Why Lil Yachty Wears UGG Boots And DGAF
Lil Yachty is known for his love of insane custom pieces of jewelry to fuse with his eccentric personality, but what you may not know is that he is actually a longtime lover of UGG!
Yep! I mean, it’s not really surprising, because this guy keeps us in awe every time we see him. But when the Jeremy Scott team reached out to him to work on collaborating with UGG, he immediately took advantage of the opportunity! The campaign was recently revealed and features Yachty and "Golden Barbie" model Jasmine Sanders. Lil Yachty and Jasmine UGG feature were shot outside Los Angeles in the desert with a vintage aesthetic, as the collection pays homage to the California spirit and Los Angeles pop culture throughout the ages.
Lil Yachty is currently on tour, but the One Night rapper took some time to update BET.com on his collaboration with Jeremy Scott and UGG. “UGG is a part of my everyday life,” says Lil Yachty. “So it was dope to be able to partner up with the brand because I use the brand.”
We all know and love Jeremy Scott’s work, but I was curious to know if Yachty was a customer before the collaboration. “Yes! I have three pairs from the UGG x Pendleton collaboration; they’re like the best house slippers ever!” he said.
Yachty connects his earliest memory of UGG brand to his mom, “Hmm, I guess growing up my mom was looking for a pair that was hard to find…this was before they were made for men. My mom was calling all over the country trying to find this one particular type of boot. She ended up finding it in some random state and had to order them. That is my earliest memory of the brand.” Honestly, I think most of us men do remember a time when UGG were exclusively connected to women. Until we dated a woman who brought us that perfect UGG shoe home, we were clueless they even had men offerings. They tend to start as a guy favorite house slipper, unknowingly that they were, in fact, UGG.
The limited edition collection, which features UGG footwear styles for men, women, kids, and babies, will be available in an exclusive distribution worldwide with prices ranging from $90 to $1,195! Not bad at all!
Lil Yachty mentions his favorite from the collection are the classic short flames boots. Why? “They’re fire – clearly!” he said excitedly.
Yachty's personal style is one that stands out, so yes, the boots that stood out the most obviously would be a personal fav for the rapper. But, Yachty actually don’t try to stand out, it's just a natural moment for him according to him: “Personal style. I don’t try to impress anybody, so I just put on what I’m in the mood for. I wear whatever I feel like wearing at the moment.”
But when it comes to “go-to” fashion pieces, he is actually not that hard to please. Assuming with his lavish taste in diamonds, you would speculate he would start calling out the latest high end designers' names. But on the contrary, his taste in fashion is actually relatively relatable to any normal guy: Carhartt pants, Chicago 1s, vintage rap or rock T-shirts. Being that he is extremely busy with touring, music and appearances the rapper shopping process is not as stringent and or time-consuming as one would think. “I don’t really have time to shop online, so I typically shop when I’m traveling. There are a few vintage spots I go to when I’m in town” he said.
But he does make time to make sure his bling collection remains up to date. We once reported that King Boat rap star spent six figures on a new pendant of his face, we thought that would have been his favorite piece since it was a priceless reflection of self-love and costs more than a single family home in Atlanta. Wrong! According to him, “Bart Simpson is my favorite because it’s so unique and detailed. The colors really pop out and it was pretty expensive. That and my 5-karat ring.” Curious the price tag of this Simpson piece? We only know for sure that it's well over six figures! Use your imagination and become very depressed!
Similar to what we heard from Christian Combs, the 20-year-old Atlanta native also believes fashion influences music. Even though he not rapping constantly about clothes like other rappers out there *ahem* Kanye, he still sees the purpose. “They go hand in hand, sort of equal trade, though I don’t talk about clothes too much as much as I do on the music.” He added. He admitted there are some guys out there who he thinks is killing the fashion game right to name of few as well, “A$AP Rocky, Bloody Osiris, Ian Connor. I really like Kid Cudi’s style, too. Aleali, she styles my music videos. And Rox Brown who is another dope stylist” he noted.
The UGG collaboration I think will be one of many from the Lil Yachty! Whether he wants to admit it or not, he has the personal style and personality to make some dope gear. I can even see foresee a jewelry collaboration with one of his favorite jewelers Rafaello and Co. pretty soon. We will patiently wait to see what comes next. Until then, grab you can possibly grab a slice of pizza with him! #MajorWin!
