Run That Back: This Week in Music Featuring Danny Brown and Kendrick Lamar, The Weeknd and More
A lot went down in music this week.
Danny Brown is back and released a single featuring Kendrick Lamar, Ab-Soul and Earl Sweatshirt. "Really Doe" is a monster and the fourth release off Atrocity Exhibition, his album due out September 30. Listen to "Really Doe" here.
The Weeknd dropped a new, highly talked about single. Featuring Daft Punk, "Starboy" will have you groovin' but is pretty different from what Abel's released in the past. Hear it here.
Juicy J, Ty Dolla $ign, Migos and Wale are just a few who released new music this past week. Check out some of our staff favorites below.
JoJo Featuring Remy Ma – 'FAB'
JOJO IS BACK WITH A MUTHAF**KIN VENGEANCE. And who better to collaborate with than the newly crowned queen of rap comebacks Remy Ma? FAB = Fake A** B*****s and it's full of bars from both JoJo and Remy about what happens when you're surrounded by phonies. This is an anthem we can all relate to, and not in that "I've got haters" way that floods Instagram memes and subtweets. Rather it's a testament to keeping your third eye open when people are out to use you. Call them FAB and they'll never know it's an insult. — Kathy Iandoli
The Weeknd Featuring Daft Punk – 'Starboy'
With Beauty Behind The Madness crossing the 4x platinum mark, Abel Tesfaye — with a fresh new look — is giving fans something to get excited about as 2016 enters the fourth quarter. The dance-y new single stays in the vein of his substance-infused party memoirs, but this time Daft Punk gives it that timeless Studio 54 feel as well. With the cover art for Starboy out earlier this week be on the lookout for a release date any day now.— Jacob Rohn
Danny Brown Featuring Kendrick Lamar, Ab-Soul & Earl Sweatshirt – 'Really Doe'
It's been a minute since we've heard from Danny Brown. He wasn't wasting his time during that lull in action, though, and his newest single proves it. Enlisting Kendrick Lamar, Ab-Soul and Earl Sweatshirt, the Detroit rapper perfectly meshes all of his very talented cohort's styles into one high-action track. We're totally ready for what's next from the "Old" rapper. — Paul Meara
Ty Dolla $ign Featuring Migos – '??? (Where)'
Ty Dolla $ign’s new mixtape, Campaign, is out today (September 23) and it’s setting the bar pretty damn high for the singer-rapper as he enters this new chapter in his career. In fact, clocking in at sixteen tracks, it’s the most cohesive collection of music he’s put out, and as the promotional singles we’ve heard thus far prove, leveling up is going quite well for Ty. With features from the likes of Future, Travi$ Scott, Wiz Khalifa, Migos and more, Campaign is full of that dirty mouthed R&B we’ve come to accept and appreciate from the singer. On “??? (Where),” the production holds a menacing feel as Ty and Migos state their case that they are a force to be reckoned with. The project is full of excusably foul party jams and “??? (Where)” is no exception. — KC Orcutt
