Man Who Murdered Adrian Peterson's Son Sentenced to Life in Prison
He had it coming to him.
Joseph Patterson, the man found guilty of killing Adrian Peterson's 2-year-old son, Tyrese Ruffin, in October 2013, was sentenced to life in prison without parole Thursday, as reported by Bleacher Report.
His sentencing comes two months after Patterson was found guilty of second-degree murder, first-degree manslaughter and aggravated battery of the toddler.
During his life sentencing Thursday, Patterson still maintained his innocence.
"This is probably where people expect a guilty person to turn around and ask for forgiveness," Patterson said, as reported by the Argus Leader. "I'm not guilty. All I did was try to help."
His attorney, Tim Rensch, added: "I believe that one day this case will be held up as an example of injustice."
Patterson doesn't feel he was given a fair trial because of the media coverage attached to the case due to Peterson's star power.
Peterson only learned that Ruffin was his son in August 2013, two months before the boy's death. The Minnesota Vikings running back attended Ruffin's funeral.
"It was a difficult day, just taking in the circumstance and the whole situation," Peterson said in 2013, as reported by Yahoo. "A child was buried. That's difficult for anyone. I'm standing strong, man. I am. My main focus has been on my son and their family down there in Sioux Falls. Just trying to wrap my head around things and trying to stay focused and play ball as well."
