Letitia Wright Talks Fear Of Heartbreak And Explains Why Her 'Black Panther' Fame Keeps Her Off Dating Apps
Letitia Wright has come to terms that dating online may not be her avenue for finding love. Find out why the Black Panther actress is strict about her approach to meeting that special someone.
Recently, the busy entertainer and devoted philanthropist chatted with Dazed about her personal life, which included her choice to stay off dating apps—despite feeling a bit of pressure from her close friends.
When asked if she ever thinks about finding love, her response was simple: “Of course, I’m going to be 27!”
While most people— including an unnamed actress friend— have opted for alternative methods to finding affection, Wright has different plans. “I just need to meet the one person that’s for me and that’s it. Done. I don’t need to do all that website stuff.”
She later explained that her friend could go on dating apps, but she couldn't due to her Black Panther fame. “She has the benefit of exploring without somebody going, ‘Oh my God! Wakanda Forever!’ She doesn’t have that problem,” she declared.
Celebrating her 27th birthday in October, the Guyanese-British star insists that while she would love to be in a relationship right now, she’s happy being patient.
“Everybody’s like, ‘Hey, you have successful friends – they’re cute’, and I’m like, ‘Yeah, but they’re dating every girl they fancy,” she suggested. “You don’t want that. Like oh, dang – you’ve got five chicks? I’m not trying to be number six.”
She continued, “I’m just trusting that I will find the person that’s for me when the time is right. My friends have told me I’m too passive. They’re like, ‘You need to do something about it.’”
For those who are wondering why Wright has chosen to take her time, her reasoning is valid— to avoid heartbreak! According to the young beauty, "I have a whole thing about not wanting my heart to be broken. You can’t enjoy your blessings when you go through that.”
To future suitors, she explained, “This is what God wants me to do, so if you’re mature enough to see that, great, amazing, cool, let’s go,” before cautioning, “But if you’re not – don’t hit my DMs. Just don’t.”
