Magic Johnson on Interviewing Howard Stern: “I Wanted To Say Something and Hit Him"
Keeping his composure intact was Magic Johnson as he revealed in a recent interview with Variety that he wanted to hit Howard Stern during their controversial interview that occurred on Johnson’s short-lived talk show The Magic Hour.
While promoting his upcoming Apple TV+ documentary, They Call Me Magic, the basketball legend commented on the awkward interaction with Stern on his former talk show which was made even more uncomfortable for fans to watch in then-real time.
“So many times, I wanted to say something and hit him at the same time — on air,” Johnson told the publication.
“I was mad when they booked him. But there’s nothing you can do. When people look for ratings, this is what happens. It is what it is. I learned a lot from that. I’ve never put myself — or HIV and AIDS, or my race — in that position again, ever again.”
Johnson hasn’t spoken to the comedic talk show host since.
