Emotional Video of Joy Lane Consoling Robert Godwin's Heartbroken Daughters and Speaking Out on #JoyLaneMassacre
Steve Stephens allegedly killed in the name of his ex-girlfriend. And while there are some people online hating her for it, the family of Stephens’s victim certainly aren’t.
Two daughters of Robert Godwin, the man Stephens murdered, met with Joy Lane, the woman whose name Stephens mentioned before pulling the trigger Tuesday morning (April 18). Their encounter, captured by Cleveland’s Fox 8, put both sides of the story at ease.
“I feel bad; the last thing he would have said is my name and he didn’t know me or why he was saying,” Lane told the sisters.
Lane also says she’s been the victim of threats on the internet and doesn’t even know what to do with herself anymore. “The hashtags Joy Lane, Joy Lane massacre, I don’t even know who Joy Lane is anymore, or how to pick up all the pieces of my world at this moment,” she explained. “I’ve got a lot of negative comments. Some even said he should have killed me.”
Joy Lane says she has received support from those close to her aside from the sisters. They’ve told her that none of this is her fault and that they don’t blame her in the slightest. During her interview with Fox 8, she went a little more into detail about her relationship with Stephens and says the last time she talked with him was on Saturday when he told her he was quitting his job and leaving the state. Lane also confirmed that she did attempt to contact her ex at his now infamous demand and claims he never took her call.
On Easter Sunday, Steve Stephens went on what was first thought as a mass killing spree in Cleveland. He claimed that he had killed 15 people and proved that he was capable of killing when he live recorded the shooting of 74-year-old Robert Godwin.
Stephens said during the video that he randomly killed Godwin because of his ex-girlfriend Joy Lane. He was later tracked down in Pennsylvania by police and subsequently committed suicide. An autopsy will be performed in the coming days.
