It's been a long time coming for Grammy Award winning neo-soul icon D'Angelo but he finally got his first performance in 11 years out of the way. The troubled singer hit the stage at Filadelfiakyrkan in Stockholm, Sweden, last night [January 25] reports Hip Hop DX.
At the show, the star, who hasn't had a hit single of his own since 2000's "Untitled (How Does it Feel)," debuted a new song called "Sugar Daddy."
In November 2011, the reclusive star announced last night's show as a part of his mini European tour. D is expected to rock at Paris' Le Zénith on January 29, hit Amsterdam’s Paradiso two nights later and then play London’s O2 Academy Brixton on February 3.
D'Angelo earned a reputation for being as troubled as he is brilliant after disappearing from the music scene following his 2000 smash Voodoo. But word has it the "Devil's Pie" singer is back in the studio working on his third album.
D'Angelo's highly anticipated Voodoo follow-up, once tentatively titled James River, has endured a number of setbacks and delays over the years. The "Brown Sugar" singer has been arrested for drug possession and solicitation and at one point survived a serious car crash.
According to ?uestlove, bassist Pino Palladino and producer/engineer Russell Elevado were in session working on the new album. Previously, producer Mark Ronson, Prince, Raphael Saadiq, John Mayer and others have been rumored as collaborators, but we'll have to wait to see who makes the final cut.
