Spike Lee is playing defense once again. 
The iconic filmmaker was put on blast on Monday by an LGBT writer and activist who accused his 1988 film School Daze of being homophobic. 
"Some defend @SpikeLee's homophobia in School Daze saying Blacks were homophobic back then. Maybe so, BUT many Blacks were fighting back," tweeted the writer, who goes by the handle Anti-Intellect. 
Lee immediately refuted the comment, saying "not at Morehouse." School Daze deals with tension between various groups at a historically Black college during homecoming weekend. The film was inspired by Lee's real-life experience at Morehouse, where he was a member of a fraternity. 
Anti-Intellect fired off a second tweet: "@SpikeLee isn't homophobic (so he says), but homophobia is in School Daze because everyone at Morehouse was homophobic when he attended?" Lee responded, "have You Ever Seen Get On the Bus? Was That Film Homophobic?"
The two traded a few more barbs before Anti-Intellect extended an olive branch by tweeting, "I engage @SpikeLee as a fan. School Daze is one of my favorite films. Can't I criticize what I love?"
To which Lee responded, "criticism is OFF."
School Daze celebrated its 25th anniversary this year.
