Issa Rae to Premiere Three TV Pilots at Urbanworld Film Fest
Issa Rae is following in her mentor Shonda Rhimes's footsteps. The creator of the wildly popular Awkward Black Girl web series is premiering three television pilots produced by her company ColorCreative.tv at this year's Urbanworld Film Festival.
The independently-produced half-hour comedy series are aiming to find a home on mainstream television, but fans can get a sneak peek on September 19 and 20 at the festival. Here's how a press release from ColorCreative.tv describes the shows:
Bleach
A dark comedy following the odd couple relationship of a depressed carpet cleaner who's forced to do clean up jobs for a no-nonsense hitman. Written by Shawn Boxe and directed by Victoria Mahoney.
Words With Girls
A lesbian relationship comedy centered on a group of 20-something, fast-talking, attitude-having LA transplants. Written by Brittani Nichols and directed by Tessa Blake.
So Jaded
A quirky buddy comedy about two best pals navigating love, life and medical marijuana in urban Los Angeles. Written by Syreeta Singleton and directed by Daven Baptiste.
Rae has big plans for her career following the success of Awkward Black Girl online. Besides launching ColorCreative.tv, she is developing network television content with Scandal creator Rhimes and continues to dominate the web with her unique perspective.
