Dwayne Haskins’ Widow Speaks Out On Her Husband’s Tragic Death
On April 9, Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Dwayne Haskins died in a tragic accident. His widow is now speaking out.
Kalabrya Haskins said in a statement, “I would like to express my sincerest gratitude to every loving soul who has supported our family during this arduous time of loss. The overwhelming thoughts and prayers have been fuel for our emotional depletion. All of your blessings have been greatly valued and appreciated. The meaningful touches and impact Dwayne made as a husband, son, brother, teammate and friend is a timeless treasure imbrued in our hearts. I am truly grateful to everyone who has been by our side as we mourn his untimely passing. Our family implores for your continued prayers, yet continued respectful privacy as we painfully grieve.”
The statement continued, “My husband was more than a great football player. He had the smile of a rainbow that touched the diversity of so many. He will forever rest and remain in our hearts til the end of time. His eternal love will always reside with us, Ohio State, Washington Commanders and Steelers Nation for eternity!”
She also revealed a celebration of life ceremony will be held on April 22, at the Allegheny Center Alliance Church in Pittsburgh, Pa.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the 24-year-old was reportedly struck by a dump truck on the I-595 while trying to walk across cross lanes with oncoming traffic. It is still unclear why Haskins was walking on the highway.
He was in Florida training with his team. The FHP says he was walking on a “limited access facility for unknown reasons.”
Dwayne Haskins was a college football standout at Ohio State. Starting just one season for the Buckeyes back in 2018, he instantly became one of the best collegiate players, setting Big Ten records and finishing third in Heisman Trophy voting that same year.
During the 2019 NFL Draft, the then-Washington Football Team selected Haskins with the 15th overall pick, however he struggled through an up-and-down rookie season and was released during his second season in 2020.
A year later, the Steelers signed Haskins, however he didn’t play during the regular season. With the departure of veteran quarterback Ben Roethlisberger, he was vying for the starting job this offseason.
