Wendy Williams Is Catching Smoke For Comparing Her Past Drug Addiction With Luke Perry’s Death
Wendy Williams returned to hosting duties on her daytime talk show at the top of this week, to the excitement of her loyal viewers.
Two days in, the opinionated host opened up about a trying time in her life when she struggled with drug addiction, that she bravely explained continues to be a daily struggle for her. However, while the heartfelt moment was likely shared with pure intentions, several of her "co-hosts" were left disappointed when she related her past drug trials to Luke Perry's untimely death.
Luke Perry, known for his work on the likes of Beverly Hills, 90210 and, most recently, Riverdale, was confirmed dead on March 4 after he failed to recover from a massive stroke from five days earlier. He was 52. So far, there has been no talk of Perry’s death having anything to do with drugs, which is why some of his stans are upset at Williams for correlating the two.
While addressing his passing, Williams shared that she was unsure whether or not the actor, like her, suffered from substance abuse problems or if he lived a "wild life."
After this brief preface, she candidly opened up to her viewers about her own struggles with drug addiction.
"You know this about me," she said, according to the Daily Mail. "I told you I've had my bout with substance abuse. Once you're a substance abuser, you have to battle that for the rest of your life... Crack is wack. I was a mess, killing myself. I realized I am a walking addict. You can't just clean it up and stop it."
Her brave confession, though nothing new to her loyal viewers, was met with applause. However, fans online expressed their gripe with her choice of words when comparing Perry's death to her addiction recovery.
