African-Americans More Likely to View Obama as Black

African-Americans, more than any other race, view President Barack Obama as "Black" as opposed to "mixed race," according to a Pew Research Center report.

African-Americans, more than any other race, view President Barack Obama as Black as opposed to mixed race, according to a Pew Research Center report.

Poll data states that 55 percent of Blacks see Obama as a Black, while 34 percent see him as mixed race. This is almost opposite of the average American's racial perception of Obama. Fifty-two percent of Americans view Obama as mixed race, while 27 percent view him as Black.

It is no secret that Obama's mother was white and his father was Kenyan, making him biracial. He is still widely referred to as the first African-American president of the United States of America.

The survey on the changing perception of mixed race was taken as part of a report called "Next America," which documented the changes in viewpoints on race, politics, culture and technology across generations.

"By mid-century, what will we call the children of interracial marriages? Today we aren’t even sure what to call our president," Pew Research Center writes.
