After completing his 15th NFL season this fall, Steve Smith Sr. will call it a career.

The five-time Pro Bowl wide receiver and one of the best wideouts in NFL history announced Monday that this coming season with the Baltimore Ravens will be his finale. 

"I feel like it's time," Smith told ESPN. "I'm going to retire after this, go home and be a dad and look back and enjoy things."

He also posted on the social media website Sqor.

At 5-foot-9, Smith carved out a reputation as one of the most competitive wide receivers in NFL history, in the same company as Hall of Famer Tim Brown as the only players to pass 13,000 receiving yards and 4,000 return yards. Smith is also 18th in NFL history in receptions with 915, 14th in receiving yards with 13,262 and his 33 touchdown catches rank 73rd all time.

"I don't want to hold on," Smith said. "Jerry Rice is the best wide receiver to ever play. But I don't believe that chasing whatever it is to chase for four more years would be conducive to my family or be conducive to me. I would be having to give up something. I would be jeopardizing something. I don't know what that it is, and I don't have any intentions of finding out."

After spending his first 13 seasons with the Carolina Panthers, Smith, 36, led the Ravens with 1,065 yards receiving and six touchdowns last season.
