Yahya Abdul Mateen II In Talks To Play Marvel’s ‘Wonder Man’
Yahya Abdul Mateen II is racking up superhero roles like infinity stones and just landed a new one.
The Hollywood Reporter shared on Monday the actor was in talks as the lead role for an upcoming Disney+ Wonder Man series. The Matrix was most recently in the Watchmen and Aquaman, so he’s no stranger to suiting up and preparing for battle.
The upcoming series will be led by Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings filmmaker Destin Daniel Cretton and Andrew Guest, a writer-producer on comedies such as Brooklyn Nine-Nine and Community.
No details surrounding the show have been revealed at this time.
For our non-comic book lovers, Wonder Man is one of Marvel’s oldest characters, debuting in 1964 initially a villain before being reconceived into a hero beginning in the 1970s. The superhero, known as Simon Williams, was a founding member of the Los Angeles-based West Coast Avengers and became a celebrity thanks to his day job as an actor and stuntman.
